together we can stop single-use plastic
Single-use plastic is now out of control. Why is this so bad?
8.3 billion metric tons of plastic has been produced since the early 50's and from this, 6.3 billion metric tons have become waste, with only 9% recycled.*
Plastic can only be recycled 2 to 3 times as recycling downgrades its quality so new plastic needs to be added.
Most plastic can't be recycled and takes between 50 to 500 years to break down and don't ever break down completely. Micro-plastics have been found inside zooplankton, which then makes its way into fish and humans.*
If we don't stop this now, there will be an estimated 12 billion metric tons of plastic in landfills by 2050.
1*Study published in Science Advances in 2019 is the world first global analysis of all plastics made.
2* Study commissioned by the World Wide Fund for Nature says the average person consumes 2000 tiny plastic particles or fibres a week, mostly from drinking water.
